YouthNet is a Kings County Program that provides support, skills building groups, and other youth services.

Youth Net’s focus is to provide support and services for at-risk youth from ages 13 to 17.  Kings County youth are ranked the highest for being involved with the judicial system.  Our objective is to change this through positive prevention methods and strategies.  Services include On-Site Youth Counseling and Skills Building Groups.

  • On-Site Youth Counseling   Youth Net realizes the importance of accessing personal, professional one-on-one counseling, and have provided an opportunity for youth to meet with a therapist when   necessary.  Youth Net can provide services in Avenal, Corcoran, Hanford, Kettlemen City, and Lemoore.  Even though our offices are located in Hanford, we are not restricted to his area exclusively.

  • Skills Building Groups- Youth Net utilizes several different prevention approaches for its groups.  These groups are offered at various times to best meet the service demand needs of the community.  (Groups written in orange are the groups being offered at this time).

    • Anger Management- Transforming Anger to Personal Power.  The goal of this program is to help kids see that they are not helpless victims of society.  They have an opportunity to take control of their lives and emotions and choose healthier responses to anger.

    • ADHD Support- This skill building group is for kids with a current ADHD/ADD diagnosis.  They will learn strategies to deal with this disorder at school.  Strategies will include classroom placement, 504 accommodations, IEPs, and relaxation techniques.

    • Girl Empowerment- Girl Empowerment is a national public education campaign sponsored by the US Department of Health and Human Services to encourage young girls to make the most of their lives.  This curriculum helps girls to develop the skills they need to resist unhealthy influences and to make positive decisions in their lives.

    • The Power Source- This curriculum is modeled on the book House of Healing: A Prisoners’ Guide to Inner Power and Freedom, used in prisons and jails across the country to teach emotional literacy skills.  It gives the participants an increased ability to understand the emotions that motivate their choices, perceptions, and feelings, as well as teaching stress management strategies.

    • Why Try?- This curriculum is a strength-based approach to helping youth overcome their challenges and improve outcomes in the areas of truancy, behavior, and academics. The program uses visual analogies, music, and hands-on activities to teach youth in ways that they will both understand and remember. (Click here for a WhyTry flier).  The Why Try Program was featured in the Hanford Sentinal, check out WhyTry in the news!
